Eight Good Swivel Chairs Under $1K
Swivel chairs are one of the greatest invention in the history of chairs. Ok, ok, that might be a bit dramatic, but they are pretty awesome! They have the ability to add to the functionality of a room by creating cozy conversation spots or they can turn to face a focal point like a fireplace or a TV. Needless to say, I’m a big fan!
So, I scoured some of my go-to sources to pull together a list of eight good swivel chairs that are comfortable and will look great in your home. I did the sorting and sifting so you don’t have to! I narrowed it down to eight that I think are pretty universally appealing and affordable. I chose the $1,000 cutoff point because I think if you spend around that, you’re getting a pretty good balance of quality and price. Of course you could always spend more (price often correlates to quality), but this is a great starting point.
There are obviously a TON of swivel chairs out there, but these should get you started. Note that most of these come in multiple fabrics and colors, so pay close attention to the silhouette (the shape and style) and if you like it, click over to the website and see what options they have for fabrics that’ll work well with your room.
In general, when I’m shopping for chairs for clients or my own home, there are a few key elements I pay attention to before making the final call. I’d encourage you to run any possible chair through this list to make sure it’s a good fit!
How to choose the right swivel chair for your room:
Size: look at the overall dimensions and measure it out in your space to see the size. Make sure it’s the right scale relative to the room and your other furniture.
Seat height: note this and make sure it’s both a comfortable height for you and that it’s within an inch or two of other seating heights in your space. There’s nothing worse than feeling like you’re towering above other people or sitting below them looking up!
Back height: so many chairs have low backs these days. That’s fine for a chair you sit on occasionally, but I find that most people want some good support if it’s an everyday chair, which means a higher back. Depending on your own height and preferences, you may want the back to be a certain height to be comfortable. A lot of websites don’t share that dimension, so you may have to do a little math to calculate it. Back height = overall height - seat height.
Fabric: if it’s an option, go with a performance fabric! They’re made to withstand wear and tear, and they give you peace of mind, especially if you like lighter colored upholstery.
Style: this is obviously going to vary a ton, but choose a style that complements your design style and the function of your room. If you have specific questions, feel free to ask in the comments, but I’ll leave it general here for now!
Now let’s take a look at the eight swivel chairs that I’m loving!
