Get the Look: Mid-Century Modern Dining Room
Happy Friday from sunny Florida! I've traded the gray skies and wintry weather of Philadelphia for the warmth and sunshine of south Florida for a week, and I'm loving it. It's a much-needed respite after a wild past six weeks to kick off 2018.
Now let's jump into this week's Get the Look post. It's a good one, my friends!
Architectural Digest never ceases to amaze me with their jaw-dropping homes, and the one I'm featuring today is no exception. This renovated and modernized home in San Francisco has no shortage of inspiration, but the fabulous dining room stole my heart with its cool mid-century vibes. The indigo shibori-style wallpaper is slightly unexpected (which is why I love it!), and it complements and brightens up all the natural wood tones in the space.
Now let's talk about that dining table, shall we? The concrete top and brass base combo feels both glamorous and industrial at the same time - it's such a great mix! The table was custom made for the space, but I've got a good lookalike piece to check out below as a substitute.
And finally, before we jump into how you can get the look of this dining room in your own home, I just want to offer a quick decorating tip since this room demonstrates an important design concept - flow - really beautifully. What I mean by flow is how one room fits in seamlessly with an adjoining room. See how this dining room opens into the living room? Because you can see right into it, you want to make sure these rooms feel connected to one another. The way they did it here was to repeat the same colors and styles in both spaces. Take note of the touches of blue, light gray, and brass in the living room and in the dining room. Lovely, isn't it?
All right, let's take a look at how I recreated the look of this mid-century dining room! Scroll on down to see the pieces I chose, and then read a little bit about why I decided on these particular ones:
Indigo Shibori Wallpaper | Abstract Blue Canvas Art* | Mid-Century Modern Sideboard | Brass Multi-Arm Modern Chandelier | Rustic Dough Bowl | White Ceramic Vase Set | Blue Velvet Fabric | Brass and White Dining Table | Mid-Century Wegner Style Dining Chair
The lookalike pieces of this dining room are a mix of high and low, and I'm loving how it turned out! For example, the dining table is a little bit of an investment, but that chandelier? Super affordable.
That gorgeous wallpaper comes in both a peel and stick and regular version, which is perfect if you need the option to remove it down the road.
And finally, to mimic the look of those lovely dining chairs, I'm actually recommending a little DIY project. This set of dining chairs is very affordable, and the seats would be very easy to reupholster in some pretty blue velvet fabric. Somebody needs to give this project a try!
All right, so tell me - what's your favorite piece in this space?
