A Very Special Design Project (We Need Your Help!)

Meet the Adams family!

I'm thrilled to announce a special volunteer project that I'm working on here in Richmond, VA with three other area designers. I'm teaming up with Habitat for Humanity along with an organization called Pen + Napkin to help furnish a home for the Adams family, who just closed on their new home!

John and Tanya Adams have worked hard to provide for their family. At age 21, John enlisted in the Air Force and learned to replace and repair HVAC units. He loved his work and, after serving in the military, was employed by an apartment complex for over 10 years, but unfortunately is now medically disabled.

Tanya enjoyed working in cosmetics until the COVID pandemic hit and then became a homeschool teacher for their four children.

Even with some major life setbacks, John and Tanya are determined to show their children that they can overcome obstacles and achieve their goals if they work hard and put their mind to it!

In Tanya’s own words, owning a home will, “...mean everything to us - to have something we can pass down to our kids. They can see their parents did it and it will be a start to building generational wealth for my family.”

Escaping a poorly insulated, lead paint and mold filled rental home, this family has gained an affordable rental home through the Richmond Habitat program, and are working toward homeownership.

My fellow designers and I are excited to tackle this project, but we need your help to make it happen!

Our goal is to raise $13,000 so we can purchase the furniture and decor that the Adams family needs to have a fresh start in their home. We’ve raised a little over $500 (as of 7/18) and we’ve got a ways to go. We’ve got until August 8th to do it!

If just 240 people donate $50 each, we'd reach out goal! Would you consider partnering with us to make that happen?

There are three ways you can help:

  • Donate funds to Pen & Napkin so we can use those to purchase the furniture and decor we need to make this house a home. Donations are tax-deductible.

  • Purchase items on our Amazon and Wayfair wishlists.

  • If you’re local to Richmond, VA, come to the Quirk Hotel for a happy hour fundraiser on Tuesday, July 26th from 4-7pm! Proceeds will go toward our fundraising goal.

THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart. We can’t wait to help this family get settled into their new home!
