2022's Most Popular Blog Posts

At the end of every year, I like to embrace my nerdy data-loving side and take a deep dive into Mix & Match’s backend analytics. Blogging weekly means I put out a LOT of content every year and it’s fun to take a look to see what the most popular posts were. This also helps me plan for the coming year - I like to see what y’all are reading and enjoying!

Instead of keeping it all to myself, I thought it would be fun to share the top 10 posts from 2022 with you all. You can also use this as a reference guide of sorts - if there’s a post that would be helpful for you, click on over and give it a read! I often have furniture or decor recommendations in them as well if you’re on the hunt for a specific item.

Let’s start with number 10 and make our way to the most popular post!

10. Make a Big Impact with Small-Scale Art: Gallery Frames with Oversized Mats

I often have people ask me about where to find frames for their walls, so it’s not a surprise that this post made the list. Gallery frames are always handy to have in a home - whether you’re framing art prints or family photos, and the oversized mat look is one that I think is here to stay.

9. How to Pick Out a Coffee Table or Ottoman

This one takes you through five important questions to ask as you’re considering what coffee table or ottoman to buy. Thinking through size, function, and style are important to make a good buying decision for this hard-working piece of furniture. I also have a roundup of some good coffee table and ottoman options to narrow your search.

8. Favorite Arched Cabinets Roundup

Oh how I love an arched cabinet! These tend to be investment pieces, but they make such a great visual impact, so it’s a worthwhile investment in my eyes. This look has really been trending over the past year or so and I don’t see it going away any time soon.

7. How to Mix & Match Dining Chairs

One small way to give your home a more “collected” look is to mix up different head chairs with your side chairs. This works beautifully with just about any style and I provide several example dining rooms that will show you what I mean. I also offer some tips on how to marry different chair styles so that the mix looks pretty and purposeful!

6. All About Plug-In Wall Sconces and Some Favorites

This one seems to be a perennial favorite and has made the list every year since it was published almost four years ago! I think people love the idea of having sconces, but don’t love the idea of having to bring in an electrician to add new wiring for them. Sconces are a great layer to add to your lighting and plug-in ones are a budget-friendly way to do make it happen.

When I wrote this post, I had no idea it would turn into an advice column! Tons of folks have asked for help choosing the right size mirror for their console table in the comments, and I’ve been happy to chime in. There are also some other great tips in this post on hanging height and why a round mirror is such a great complement to a console table.

4. How to Pick the Right Counter Stools for Your Kitchen

It feels like the vast majority of kitchens these days are designed with a spot for a few counter stools. Whether it’s at an island or peninsula, having seating in this heavily-used part of the home is handy, but choosing the right kind of seating is key to having it work well. Catch some tips and a roundup of counter stools in this well-loved post!

3. Tips for Coordinating Light Fixtures in Your Home

If you’re building or remodeling, or simply swapping out a few overhead lights in your home, making sure they work well together is important. 1. How to Work With Dated Granite in Your Kitchen

I’m floored that this was number one!

You know countertop styles have changed when you see a post like this trending. Countertops are pricey to change out, so unless you’re planning a more significant kitchen renovation, most folks are likely to find a way to work with the countertops they have - even if they aren’t their favorite look. There are definitely ways to do it, and I talk about those in this post.

We lived with our dated granite for three years before taking the plunge on giving our kitchen a makeover that included new countertops. If you’d like to see how that turned out, you can see our coastal modern kitchen refresh here!

So there you have it! The most-read posts of 2022. Were there any surprises to you? Anything you’d like to see me write about on the blog in the next year? I’m all ears!
