An Honest Review of the Loloi Rugs in My Home
As I was walking around my house the other day, I realized that I have not one, not two, but FOUR Loloi rugs in my home. They’ve become a go-to brand for me in the past several years and I thought I’d share my honest review of why I like them, when I think they’re a good option, and their shortcomings. I hope these insights will be helpful as you shop for rugs, especially online!
Since there are SO many rug brands out there, I though focusing on this particular one - Loloi - would be a good place to start, and hearing others’ personal experiences always offers great insights into quality, durability, feel, and overall design.
Now, one thing to note about Loloi is that, like many other rug brands, they have different levels of quality, use a variety of materials, and carry rugs at several price points. The specific rugs I’m going to be talking about today are their printed polyester rugs, which is their most affordable line!
Let’s get into it!
Our first Loloi rug
I purchased my first Loloi rug about three years ago. They’d been on my radar for awhile and we had just moved into a new house that needed all new rugs. I bought the Layla in Ocean/Rust* for our family room and immediately loved it. It’s the one you see in the first photo of this post and you can see a couple of other views of it here.
Depending on the light and the angle, it can look more saturated or more faded. Because it’s made to look like a vintage Persian rug, this is definitely something to expect! Rugs also can have a “grain” of sorts - depending on which way you lay it, the more color you may see, if that makes sense.
I’d say it’s a good dupe both in pattern and the way it looks “worn.” It truly mimics a vintage rug really well.
The other two printed polyester rugs I have are the Jules in Lagoon/Brick in our guest room and the Layla in Taupe/Stone in my husband’s office.
Unfortunately I don’t have a photo of the guest room that shows the rug well, but below is a peek into what the latter looks like in his office. I’d say this one has more navy and teal in it than the description might say. These rugs are actually great in an office because there’s no pile (essentially flat) so you can easily roll a chair over it.
Important things to know about Loloi’s printed rugs
There are a few characteristics that are important to note if you’re considering purchasing one of these rugs:
They’re flat. These are not your high pile, tufted rugs, my friends. There’s essentially zero pile to these. It’s important to know that going into it or you might be disappointed when you roll it out! They’re about 1/4” thick (with the exception of the CloudPile rugs that I’ll mention below) and I can’t recommend having a good, thick rug pad enough. This is one of my favorites. It’ll make it feel so cushy and plush underfoot!
They’re printed, not woven. Again, this isn’t an inherently good or bad thing - it’s about setting expectations! The printing process they have is really good and I think it’s an amazing way to get the look of a vintage rug without the high price tag.
They’re super durable. Given the construction and material (polyester), they’re made for high traffic areas. While we don’t wear shoes in our house, we aren’t easy on our rugs either. Our family room has seen just about everything (think babies, toddlers, and a dog) and I’m happy to say that it’s held up beautifully.
It’s soft underfoot. The feel of this rug is almost like a woven chenille. It’s really soft and has a bit of cush to it. I wouldn’t say it’s plush, but it’s comfortable. Loloi does have a new line of printed rugs made in a style called CloudPile that’s supposedly really soft and a bit thicker than these rugs. I haven’t had a chance to feel it myself yet, but I hear wonderful things about it. I’ll include a couple of those in my roundup at the end.
Would I recommend Loloi rugs?
In a word, absolutely! While I adore authentic, handwoven rugs made in Turkish, Heriz, Oushak, or similar styles, they’re not always an option. Whether it’s price, availability, or life stage that steer you away from that route, sometimes you need a good alternative that still gives you the same look and feel. I love that these rugs can fill that need.
I even had my family room rug cleaned this past summer and it made it look as good as new! It’s amazing how much dirt and grime rugs can absorb. A good cleaning is definitely worth it after you’ve had a rug for awhile.
Other Loloi rugs I’m loving
I’m always eyeing these for my clients and my own home. They’re such a good fit for active young families, people with pets, and really anyone who wants an affordable, good looking and durable rug in their home. It’s hard for me to resist filling my home with them!
In the past few years, they’ve done some amazing collaborations with folks like Amber Lewis, Chris Loves Julia, and Rifle Paper Co., so be sure to take a look at those along with Loloi’s own lines. If you’re on the hunt for a rug, it’s worth going down the rabbit trail of this brand’s rugs - I’m sure you’ll find a good fit.
