Design In A Box: Preppy Modern Bedroom

Through the Design In A Box series, you can get the sources for this look pulled together by an interior designer FOR FREE. This week it's a sophisticated preppy modern bedroom for under $2,000! || feminine bedroom, sophisticated bedroom, …

I'm back with the second installment of the Design In A Box series today! When I shared the first week's design over on Instagram last week, it was clear by the comments that y'all liked the idea of this new series - hooray!

If you're new to the series this week, here's what it's all about: each Friday, I'll design a room from scratch that will include the basic pieces - and perhaps a few fun accessories - that you would need to get a room "up and running" if you will. I'll change up the style and room from week to week, and I hope that these looks are inspiring and helpful in decorating your own home.

At the bottom of the post you can find all the sources for the room so you can shop the look!

Now let's dive into today's Design In A Box: a preppy modern bedroom!

DESIGN PROCESS

The thought process behind this space started with the idea that I wanted to create a bedroom that would feel clean, sophisticated, and just slightly feminine. I didn't want anything to be too fussy, but it needed to be cozy and inviting. I can see this design working well as either a guest room or master bedroom.

I chose navy blues and white for that classic preppy feel, and then I mixed in some warmer tones with touches of taupe, brass, and light natural wood as well. Brass has a way of feeling both modern and classic at the same time - it's one of my favorite metals to use! Those gorgeous Palmetto shams from Serena & Lily bring all the colors together beautifully. (Side note: the taupe framed shams are on MAJOR sale right now at Rejuvenation, which probably means they'll be sold out soon...get 'em while you can!)

One piece you'll note right away with this space is the four poster canopy bed. I've been itching to use one of these for awhile now, so I figured now was as good a time as any! This style of bed works well if you have slightly taller ceilings (at least 9') and a decent-sized room. It can feel really imposing in a smaller space, so that's my only caution if you're considering using one in your bedroom. I like the light and airy feel of this one, and the price can't be beat ($223 for a queen!).

Whenever I'm designing a space, if I can, I like to throw in one piece that's a bit of a curveball to keep things from being too predictable. In this case, that piece is a metallic faux cowhide rug! It's not something that's too "in your face," but it adds just the right amount of fun and feels unexpected.

Would you put a metallic cowhide in your home?
