Dining Table Roundup - Faves in Rectangular and Round
A few weeks ago, a friend DM’d me and asked if I had any plans to do a dining table roundup for the blog. She was on the hunt for an affordable, good quality table for her home, and wanted to see what I might recommend!
I thought that would make a great post (thanks, Christie!), so here I did a deep dive into finding some great options for rectangular and round tables under $2,000. Now, that might sound like a steep price, but know that that was the tippy-top of the range, and that many of these are around the $1,000 mark or less. 😉
Let’s start with the rectangular set…
Rectangular Dining Tables
1. Modern Trestle Dining Table | 2. Mid-Century Walnut Extension Dining Table | 3. Coastal Rattan Dining Table | 4. Modern White Dining Table | 5. Metal Leg + Wood Top Dining Table | 6. Farmhouse Dining Table | 7. Parsons Wood Dining Table | 8. Modern Splay Leg Dining Table
I tried to capture a range of styles in this set, including modern, coastal, and mid-century, which are all styles I’m generally drawn to. I tend to gravitate toward a wood dining table much of the time as well, so that’s what you see here.
I read through all of the details and reviews (if they had them) for each of these tables to do my best QC check, but be sure to do your own research as well to make sure it’s a good fit for your home! Dining tables are one piece I’d invest in if you can because they see a ton of wear and tear. Making sure they can stand up to that is important!
Design Notes:
1. Modern Trestle Dining Table: A modern version of a farmhouse style table with a trestle base. The rounded ends give this table a slightly softer look and a subtle nod to mid-century styling.
2. Mid-Century Walnut Extension Dining Table: The image doesn’t do this table justice. I’ve seen it in person and it’s beautiful. The walnut tone is perfection and the simplicity is really what makes it lovely. It doesn’t need anything else!
3. Coastal Rattan Dining Table: If you’re a fan of the modern coastal trend, this rattan paneled dining table fits right in with that. I’m seeing rattan and cane pop up in all sorts of furniture (some good, some not-so-good), but this is a classy use. Plus, with dining chairs surrounding it, the rattan feels like a special detail that’s not super in-your-face.
4. Modern White Dining Table: This may be the only white table in my rectangular table roundup, but it’s a good one! For me, that’s because of arched corners at the meeting point of the top and legs. It’s the little things! Thanks to the thin legs and end placement, this is also a great table for maxing out seating within a small footprint!
5. Metal Leg + Wood Top Dining Table: I can personally vouch for this one since it’s the one we have in our dining room! We’ve had it for about 5 years now and it has held up beautifully. We actually found it secondhand when we lived in Philadelphia - I couldn’t believe our luck!
6. Farmhouse Dining Table: I like the streamlined feel of this farmhouse style table. It’s chunky, but doesn’t have a lot of extra to it, if you know what I mean. It’s also an extension table - each end comes out to add some extra room when needed.
7. Parsons Wood Dining Table: If you’ve got a bigger space that can handle a chunkier table, this is a good option! It can fit in seamlessly with more than one style as well - it works most naturally with modern, farmhouse, or coastal decor.
8. Modern Splay Leg Dining Table: This is a little bit of a wild card, I’ll say! It kept coming up in different searches I was doing, and I was intrigued by the unique legs. They’re the same style as the metal hairpin legs you seen a lot of these days, but they’re wood. So if you wanted that look, but prefer wood, take a closer look at this one!
Round Dining Tables
1. Brass Pedestal + Marble Top Dining Table* | 2. Mid-Century Walnut Round Dining Table | 3. White Tulip Table | 4. Light Wood Pedestal Dining Table | 5. White Pedestal Dining Table | 6. Industrial Farmhouse Round Dining Table | 7. Black Three-Leg Dining Table | 8. Farmhouse Pedestal Round Table | 9. Marble and Brass Round Pedestal Table
I really do love a round dining table these days. They often give you the ability to squeeze in a couple of extra chairs when you need them (especially if it has a pedestal base!) and they’re great for facilitating conversation. Most dining rooms are made to accommodate a long, rectangular one by default, but if you happen to have a larger open space, round might work wonderfully! They’re also great in smaller sizes for breakfast nooks.
I’ve got quite a diverse range of options here in terms of style and materials. I don’t know why, but it seems like round tables like to mix things up! We’ve got marble tops, metallic bases, and a couple in pure white as well. It’s a fun change from much of the wood you see in the rectangular set!
Design Notes:
1. Brass Pedestal + Marble Top Dining Table: This is one of two brass + marble combos I have in this list. It’s just SUCH a good combo for a round dining table! I liked the flared base of this one - it feels substantial. It’s a great fit for a modern, transitional, or even coastal if you’re game for a little glam.
2. Mid-Century Walnut Round Dining Table: A classic mid-century shape in a classic walnut tone. What you can’t see from the image here is that it has a gorgeous sunburst effect on top. It’s a showstopper for sure. Pair it with some simpler chairs to let the table be the star of the show here.
3. White Tulip Table: You really can’t go wrong with a classic tulip table, especially in white! This has a modern look on its own, but you can use it with just about any kind of chair - it’s almost like a “design neutral” piece. It works well with a variety of styles.
4. Light Wood Pedestal Dining Table: Gosh, this might be my favorite of the bunch. It’s another dining table where the beauty lies in the simplicity. It’s a subtle statement piece! I’d probably use black or white chairs with it.
5. White Pedestal Dining Table: This is the more detailed version of the tulip table, and bonus - it’s an extension table! Got a few extra folks for dinner, no problem. Just pull out the leaf in the middle and you’ve got room for two more. 😊
6. Industrial Farmhouse Round Dining Table: If your decorating style leans a little more rustic, this is a fun option for a dining table. The black metal base and rough-hewn top lends itself beautifully to that look!
7. Black Three-Leg Dining Table: I love this one for a breakfast nook or small dining room. The thin legs give it a lovely light and airy feel that don’t take up any extra space, but feel unique enough to make this simple table special.
8. Farmhouse Pedestal Round Table: At the opposite end of the spectrum, you’ve got this 60” chunky farmhouse table! This grand table has a lot to say, and it’s beautifully proportioned.
9. Marble and Brass Round Pedestal Table: Finally, I’ve got one more tulip style table for you! This time, it’s a brass base with a marble top. It’s kind of a cousin to the first round table in this set, but is more streamlined.
I hope this roundup gives you a good starting point if you’re looking for a new dining table! Any categories I missed? Any favorites you’d like to share? I’m all ears!
