Get the Look: California Boho Living Room

Last week on Instagram, I threw up a question in my Stories about what style y'all wanted to see next in the Get the Look series and the most popular answer was...drumroll please...California Boho! So for today's post, I designed living room with that decorating style as my inspiration. It also happens to be one of my personal favorites, so it wasn't a stretch to pull it together!

One of the things I love about this design style is the way it feels - it's casual, yet sophisticated, and it's always really inviting. These spaces are typically bright and airy with white walls, lots of textures, and warm woods. There's often a hint of clean-lined mid-century and definitely some coastal modern nods.

Can you tell I'm a fan? 😉

There's a ton of good inspiration out there for the California meets bohemian style, and it was hard to choose just four images to use for today's post! I love the ones you're going to see here today though, so scroll on down and take a look at all of these gorgeous spaces!

Gosh, I love each one of those spaces, don't you? Each one is unique, and yet they all have common elements like light colored furniture (hello white slipcovers!), mixed metals, and warm natural wood tones. Scroll on down to see how I put my own spin on this style!

Now let's chat about a few of the pieces in this California Boho living room!

First up, let's talk about those fabulous indigo shibori chairs. I fell hard for them when I saw them - the combo of a fun pattern, clean mid-century lines, and tufted back cushion makes for one really amazing chair. They're definitely statement pieces, but who doesn't love a standout accent chair? I think they're still neutral enough to mix in with other pieces as a room evolves though.

Across from those is a beautiful slipcovered white sofa. I know white sofas aren't for everyone, but the slipcover makes it possible to wash it and make it look brand new for years to come. The petite arms and single bench cushion were the parts that really sold me on this particular sofa.

Above the sofa, I created a mini gallery wall with a few fun art prints. The beach scene on the left is from an artist I recently discovered on Society6 - her style is a little different than anything I've seen before and it's so fun. The other two pieces are abstracts from Minted that I just loved. The colors work so well with the beach print and the other elements of the room.

If you're looking for a unique coffee table, I've got one for you. This light wood number has such beautiful and varied wood tones, and the top is made up of wood slices.

Moving up to the ceiling, be sure not to miss the five arm brass light fixture! This mid-century piece is perfect for a living room and will add a ton of overhead light. You can even customize the down rod size to accommodate your ceiling height.

Finally, I had to include some plants - this living room wouldn't have that Cali vibe otherwise! On the coffee table, I added a Pilea Peperomioides (a.k.a. Chinese Money Plant). Its delicate, round leaves are so fun and different. The other is a rubber tree plant in a black planter. This one also has unique leaves that are dark and thick, and really makes a statement. (P.S. Looking for planters or more indoor houseplants? I've got you covered! Click the links to see my other posts about those two topics.)
