Modern Cottage Shared Nursery Design Board

If you’ve been with me on this journey to welcome a new baby girl to our family in December, you’ve probably seen me hinting at some of the nursery design elements over on Instagram and here on the blog, but today’s a big day…I’m ready to reveal the design board for the shared nursery guest room space!

To catch you up, so far I’ve shared…

And now it’s onto the main event…the actual design board!

Modern Cottage Shared Nursery Design

I’ve been noodling on this design for quite awhile now, and I think it’s finally in a spot where I’ve finalized most of the decisions. As a designer, I often find it’s hardest to design for myself and tend to go round and round in circles before landing on a final look! I have the privilege of being in the business of creating beautiful spaces for my clients, so I sometimes feel like it’s a challenge to narrow down the possibilities for my own home. There are so many different (and good!) directions to go, but alas, this is only one room, and thus, one design!

As I mentioned in the “before” post of the guest room, we’re reusing a lot of what we have and enhancing it with a few new strategic pieces and special touches to make it feel like a baby girl’s nursery while preserving the guest room aspect.

My hope for this room is for it to feel cozy and warm, with a lot of English traditional-meets-modern design elements. Thus, the “modern cottage” style!

I’m pulling a lot of the color inspiration from our existing rug, which means using more warm tones than I ever have before! You’ll see shades like raspberry red and mauve pink along with tans and taupes. I’ll balance those out with cooler shades of blue and gray.

So what do you think of this design direction?

Here’s the lineup of what I’m planning to purchase for the room and what we have already…
