Do you ever wish you could transform the look of a sofa or chair in your home without having to buy a new piece of furniture? Well, you can thanks to the power of a beautiful slipcover from Comfort Works!
Now, if the word “slipcover” gives you visions of ill-fitting fabric draped over a piece of hand-me-down furniture, stop right there. These are tailored, made-to-fit slipcovers that perfectly mirror the lines of your sofa or chair. Whether your piece is worn out, needs a style update, or you’re just eager to give it a makeover, definitely check these out. This concept is truly a game-changer.
I’ve been working with Comfort Works to create a brand new slipcover for my Rowe Sylvie sofa in our front living room. I thought I’d share a little peek into my experience with the ordering process and show you my sofa as an example of what a difference a new slipcover can make.
The first step is to order your fabric samples. They sent me a set from their new line of Signature Velvets that come in some wonderfully cozy colors. I chose “Sand” - it’s akin to a light camel. It adds a touch of warmth and feels so different from the woven, off-white fabric I’ve had on there since we bought the sofa four years ago!
(Side note: If velvet isn’t your thing, be sure to check out the other fabrics they have in their collection - I especially love that they have so many performance fabrics, including Sunbrella!)
Let’s compare the two slipcovers, shall we?
BEFORE: Rowe Sylvie Slipcovered Sofa in Neutral Performance Fabric
AFTER: Rowe Sylvie Slipcovered Sofa in Sand Signature Velvet from Comfort Works
Even though they’re both neutrals, each fabric makes for quite a different look. Velvet has a way of making things feel more luxe and formal, and I love that this particular velvet is a performance fabric, making it spill-proof and easy to clean. That’s something that’s definitely necessary in our house with kids and pets, and the occasional clumsy adult. 😉 It’s scratch proof too, so that means it’s cat-friendly, which isn’t always easy to find.
It’s a fabric you can feel good about bringing into your home too since it’s OEKO-TEX certified and free from harmful chemicals.
Two other elements that set them apart are their 3 year fabric warranty(!) and 60 day “In Love Again” guarantee. That means if it doesn’t fit right or you’re not satisfied with the slipcover, they’ll work with you to make it right!
Comfort Works made the process of ordering my new slipcover really smooth. They have a growing library of “ready to go” brands and models they cover and they also make custom slipcovers for brands they don’t. If you’re going the custom route like I did (they’re in the process of adding the Sylvie to their catalog though!), you’ll need to complete an easy-to-follow measurement form. They’ll let you know if there are any discrepancies and have you re-measure anything that looks “off” in order to make sure that slipcover is a perfect fit.
Once the measurements are in, they’ll get to work on making your slipcover! In just a couple of weeks, mine arrived on my doorstep and I was able to swap it out with my existing one. It was something I was able to do on my own, even in my third trimester of pregnancy.
Because it’s made to be a perfect fit for your sofa, it can be a tight squeeze in some spots. Know that it might take a bit of shimmying to slip it on there. Just be sure to do a few inches at a time, going back and forth as needed until it’s in place - all it takes is a little finesse. The result? A tailored, high-quality slipcover!
I’ll be honest, I was amazed at what a great fit it was - they’ve got some talented folks working in their factory to make these, that’s for sure. In fact, the first night I had it on the sofa, some visiting friends of mine thought we had gotten an entirely new sofa!
Having this new slipcover has me thinking of all the possibilities for this sofa in the future. Given its quality construction, we plan to have it for a long time. And knowing that we’d be able to change its look so easily if we move homes or even if we decide to put it in a new room makes me excited for its years ahead.
If you’re ever in the market to give a piece of furniture a brand new look in your home, be sure to check out Comfort Works - it’s such a great way to use what you have and give it a beautiful, high-end update!
