One Bed, Three Bedroom Designs
Today’s post is all about the versatility of one piece of furniture - a lovely modern wingback upholstered bed!* This happens to be the one that we have in our master bedroom, and ever since I got it last fall, I’ve thought about how it could work with SO many different design styles. It’s a great neutral piece to build around and to show you just how well it works, I designed three bedrooms with the exact same bed!
It comes in a variety of fabrics, but the one I used here (and what I have in our bedroom at home) is called “Zuma Pumice.” It’s a heathered gray, so it has some great texture and color variation, but it reads as a solid from farther away. It’s a true gray in my mind with no weird undertones. It’s also affordable - the price fluctuates a ton, but it’s almost always under $800 (even for a King), which is a good price for a bed like this.
As I tend to do with all of my design work, I mixed up some super affordable pieces with some that are a little more of an investment. If you can swing it, I think it’s worth paying “up” for a special item or two in a room, especially if it’s something you absolutely love.
Now, you’ll notice that I also used a plain ole white duvet here too as a foundation. White duvets are my go-to, and I really like this one. You can purchase a “bundle” that includes sheets, pillow cases, and a duvet cover - everything you need to dress a basic bed!
Let’s dig into these!
Modern Traditional
Bed | Rug | Nightstands | Lamps | End of Bed Bench | Square Accent Pillows | Lumbar Accent Pillow | Art
I’ve been dying to pair this rug with that end of bed bench you see here. There’s something so great about the way they complement each other, don’t you think? The lines on that bench are gorgeous and it’s the perfect size and style for the end of a queen bed. The rug has that vintage, worn look that’s so popular these days (for good reason!) and I think the colors are really wonderful too. Somebody please get both of these for your bedroom and send me a photo, ok? I’d love to see it in real life!
Since the rug makes such a statement, I wanted to balance it out with a large, modern piece of art above the bed. It ties in well color-wise and has that vintage feel as well, but the shapes are definitely modern. Then I added some reddish-pink throw pillows to pull in that color from the rug too.
Overall, this bedroom feels sleek and cozy at the same time. It’s definitely a style I gravitate towards in my own home, but I really love the other two designs as well. Let’s head onto the next one!
Farmhouse Eclectic
Bed | Rug | Nightstands | Lamps | End of Bed Bench | Square Accent Pillows | Lumbar Accent Pillow | Art
Now for something pretty different: a farmhouse eclectic bedroom! For this design, my starting point primarily came from the seaside landscape art print above the bed. It has the feel of a vintage oil painting that fit the theme, but wasn’t overly screaming FARMHOUSE if you know what I mean. :)
The only other overtly farmhouse style piece in this room is the nightstand. Those curvy legs and lighter wood finish are pretty lovely if you ask me! What makes this room eclectic is the addition of some modern pieces like the leather bench and wall sconces (which can either be plugged in or hardwired, and they’re crazy affordable), different styles of accent pillows on the bed, and then a modern farmhouse rug on the floor.
One overarching theme in this space is that the colors are all a little “muddy” and desaturated, which definitely helps them coexist nicely. If you look closely, you’ll notice that there are actually a lot of different colors here, but it feels calm and collected, rather than an explosion of all.the.colors.
One more design to go!
Cozy Southwestern
Bed | Rug | Nightstands | Lamps | End of Bed Bench | Square Accent Pillows | Lumbar Accent Pillow | Art 1 | Art 2
Southwestern is a style I wouldn’t have considered a few years ago, but I’ve found myself drawn to a “toned down” version of it lately mostly thanks to some artists I’ve followed that work in that style! You could also say it has a tribal or global feel to it, but with a modern twist.
In this bedroom in particular, I wanted to design a cozy space (it is a bedroom after all!) that had a nice balance of dark and light pieces along with some great texture and pattern to give it that warm feel. The result is clean-lined, slightly eclectic version of a southwestern style space. How’s that for a description? Clearly I have a tough time sticking to one style - but I think that’s a good thing!
So what do you think of these three designs? Isn’t it amazing how different each one is even though they all use that same gray wingback bed? Which one can you see using in your own home?
