Our New Living Room Sofa From Burrow

Our living room got a little update in the form of a new sofa, and I'm excited to share it with you today because this isn't just any sofa, y'all. It's a Burrow sofa.* Read on to hear why I'm so psyched about it and how this company is shaking things up in the furniture industry.

If you've been following along on Instagram, you probably saw that our seven year old Pottery Barn Comfort sofa was for sale, and many of you asked what was going to replace it. I hinted at what it would be, but kept it mostly under wraps since I knew I'd be writing up this post allll about it. A friend bought our old sofa (woohoo!) a couple of weeks ago, and now that it's gone and the new guy is in place, it's time to share the updated living room!

It's amazing how different this space looks with the new sofa and a few small changes to the decor.

In case you don't remember, here's what it looked like before:

While we loved our old sofa for a long time, my husband and I were both itching for a change. My style has evolved in the past couple of years to lean more modern and eclectic, and the coastal style of our sofa wasn't doing it for me anymore. We also wanted something that had a little more support and wasn't quite so deep.

When I heard about the Burrow sofa, I was intrigued for a few reasons:

  • It's beautifully designed (hello mid-century modern!).

  • It's modular and can be assembled and disassembled super fast, which makes moving it a dream. And because it's modular, it can be as small as a single seat chair, and as long as you want it to be.

  • It's comfortable, but supportive at the same time.

  • The fabrics are stain-resistant, which is perfect for pets and kids.

  • The price point is super affordable.

Burrow also started right here in Philly, which gives them bonus points in my book!

With all of those pros in mind, we decided to give this guy a try, and ordered one in charcoal, which is quite a change from our white slipcovered sofa! The darker color stands out beautifully against our light gray walls and is definitely a focal point on that wall now.

It arrived in four boxes, and after removing all the packaging, I assembled it by myself in about 15 minutes. No tools needed. It was pretty intuitive, but they do provide written directions as well. I didn't take any photos of that process, but you can watch a video of how it happens right here. If you find yourself moving a lot or live in a tight space like a walkup apartment in the city, this sofa will be a dream for you.

You know how normally when you order a sofa it can take up to 10 weeks(!) to receive it? Well this one arrived in a week, and shipped for free.

And I should mention one other thing - you can change the look of the sofa just by flipping the cushions. One side is tufted and the other is flat. If you're like me and enjoy changing things up on a regular basis, this is a pretty snazzy feature. Take a look at the gif below to see the different combos in action. My fave is the flat seat with the tufted back cushions.

Have I convinced you yet that this sofa is different from pretty much any other sofa on the market? :) I find it really impressive how Burrow has taken away so many pain points when it comes to committing to a large piece of furniture like this. If this is sofa sounds like a perfect fit for you, you can click the button below to head to the Burrow website.

The other change you may have noticed was the art above the sofa. That big ole canvas is something I painted a few months ago and it never looked quite at home over our white sofa, which is why I haven't shown it to you until now. I was tempted to take it down and change it when our white sofa was there, but when we put the Burrow sofa in place, all of a sudden it looked just right!

I've also been playing around with pillows, which is one of my favorite ways to give a room a new look without spending a lot of money! The light blue ones are both from H&M (one is on sale for $2.99 and the other is sadly no longer available, but you can see my current faves from there in this post from last week.) and the denim one with the zig-zag stripe is from West Elm awhile back (also no longer available). If you're looking for some direction on how to mix and match pillows, check out this post that offers some ideas and tips.

So that's the latest on our living room! I've really enjoyed the process of swapping things out over time to create the look that reflects my style, and our new sofa is the icing on the cake - it was the last big piece I was looking to change, so it's exciting to see it actually happen. With that, I'm calling our living room "done" (at least for now!). :)
