Five Simple Ideas to Refresh Your Home for Fall
Though I’d say I’m not one to change up much of my decor with the seasons, I do like the idea of bringing in a few touches when a new one rolls around. We’re lucky here in Virginia that we truly get to experience all four seasons, and fall feels like it’s on its way!
Today I thought I’d share five easy, budget-friendly ways to bring in a little bit of those cozy fall feels into your home. You may already have some of these things stored away (bring them on out!) or you can make a few strategic purchases and you’ll be all set.
It doesn’t have to be all pumpkins and an explosion of mums - the changes can be very subtle as you’ll read below!

Bring out the blankets
blanket | rug | sofa | table lamp
Blankets have this way of bringing instant coziness to a room. I usually keep mine tucked away in baskets or drape them over the arm of a chair or sofa. Making them accessible in the cooler seasons is key! My current favorite one is a gauzy cotton throw - it’s weighty enough for fall and it has just the right amount of softness. Once winter comes along, I tend to like a true fuzzy blanket!
Here are a few recommendations if you’re looking to add a new one or two to your home:
Change up a pillow or two with fall colors
copper pillow | oatmeal pillow (similar) | sofa | rug | side table | art
This is such an easy swap! I always recommend purchasing pillow covers and using your existing inserts if you can (I prefer down/feather ones like these). That way you can reuse higher quality inserts and store extra covers easily. I changed out a sage green pillow for this copper stripe and love the way it blends with the reds in the rug.
To give your home a touch of fall, I’d suggest going with warmer colors like rust, terracotta, mustardy yellows, burnt oranges or even a deeper forest green! I like the colors to be a bit more muted or muddy rather than bright. You can see examples below!
Add cozy with candles

Candles - scented or unscented - are a great addition to your home for fall. I find myself pulling out my candles a lot more when the weather cools down (particularly the scented ones) and love the ambiance they bring. Tapers and pillar candles are great too - group them together on a mantle or your table to add some cozy to a room.
Colored tapers are a great way to change up the look for the season. Similar to the colors I mentioned for pillows, those are great options for your taper candles as well.
Fall branches in a vase
orange branches | vase | dining table | chairs
What’s easier than snipping a few branches and plopping them in a vase? Not much! If you don’t have any fall branches readily available, give faux branches a try! There are some really good ones out there and they’ll last forever too. These are the ones I have on my table.
I rounded up a few options for you if you’d like to snag some for your fall decor:
Music is such a great mood setter! I love low-key singer songwriter playlists for those cooler nights that come with fall. Spotify is my go-to and a couple of playlists I like are Sweater Weather and Pumpkin Spice. Do you find that you change up your music with the seasons? What are you listening to these days?
