Beautiful Light Fixtures for Low Ceilings

If you live in a home that has low ceilings, you might be bemoaning the fact that you can’t have those amazing light fixtures like you see in all those homes with soaring ceilings on Pinterest (ugh!). It might be a little trickier, but you can still find beautiful fixtures that will work for your 8’ ceilings.

A good rule of thumb is to have at least 7’ of clearance between the floor and the bottom of your light fixture, so in a home with 8’ ceilings, that means your light fixture height needs to be about 12” high. Usually that means you’re tied to either a flushmount or semi-flush mount style, but thankfully there are tons of good ones out there these days in a range of price points!

In case you need a little refresher on what those two styles refer to, here’s what they mean:

  • Flushmount (or flush mount, depending on where you’re looking!) means that the fixture is literally, flush, against the ceiling. There’s no space between the canopy that attaches the fixture to the ceiling and the rest of the fixture. If your ceilings are lower than 8’, definitely stick to a flushmount.

  • Semi-Flushmount means that there’s a small gap between the canopy and the rest of the fixture. You can almost think of it as having a little “breathing room.” As long as the overall height of the light fixture is around 12” or less, you can use a semi-flush mount with an 8’ ceiling.

I rounded up a bunch of good ones for you today that span several different styles - from modern to transitional to coastal. A lot of them come in a variety of finishes like brass, nickel, or black, so if you see one you like, but need a different metal finish, click over to the site to see what options are available!
