Get the Look: Cozy Modern Traditional Living Room Design Board

I love it when clients bring me beautiful inspiration photos for their projects. When we’re aligned on style, things tend to go really well! That’s been the case with one project I’ve been working on that’s channeling some serious modern traditional vibes, with a little bit of moody masculine thrown in there. Think Amber Interiors meets Jean Stoffer Design.

Then last week on Instagram, I shared some screenshots of the Pinterest board from my client and asked if y’all would like to see a design board for a room inspired by those images. The answer was a resounding YES so here we are. You voted for a living room and I’ve got one for you today!

To catch you up in case you missed the screenshots of the Instagram Stories, here’s the vibe:

Can you catch the vision? It’s warm and cozy with lots of neutrals, natural woods, and dark accents. I’m crushing on it hard!

Here’s the living room I designed around this look:

Cozy Modern Traditional Living Room

If you’ve been around for a little while, you know that I’m a fan of the “high/low” mix - invest in the pieces that matter and see a lot of wear and tear, and then save in other places. This room reflects that idea! The upholstery is more of a splurge, but the accent pieces offer more budget conscious ideas - including that chest that’s wildly affordable.

I could see this space as being a cozy library room or family TV watching space with its dark paneled walls (or just on one wall as an accent). I love the swoop arm sofa in that blue-gray that blends so nicely against the paneling. It’s just different enough to feel like it doesn’t get lost with the walls. The white marble side table pops against it to the side of the sofa. Then some almost fuzzy ivory accent chairs complete the seating area. The tailored tufting and turned legs add some traditional detailing to them.

Then a more primitive, yet modern coffee table provides another dark detail to the room, yet feels light with its open base.

The seating area sits atop a subtle plaid patterned rug. I like the combo of browns, blues, and grays here with the other pieces.

I always like to have a mix of ceiling and ambient eye-level lighting in a room to make sure it’s well-lit and offers different options. Here I included a ceiling fixture, floor lamp, and table lamp. Depending on the room size, I might even add in one more table lamp somewhere.

I kept things simple on wall decor, but if there are more walls to fill, by all means - add more art! The dreamy landscape print comes in tons of sizes and framing options, so if you like this one, but need a different scale, be sure to check out the link to it in the source list below. I also loved the idea of a wavy mirror above the little accent chest. It’s a fun detail that’s a little unexpected here!

So what do you think? Is this a room that you’d like to bring to life in your home? What questions do you have about it? Hit me up in the comments!
