Hosting Essentials for the Guest Room
Hosting season is upon us!
If you’ve got family or friends coming to visit over the upcoming holidays, is your guest room ready to receive them? With all the hustle and bustle that this season brings, it can be easy to put it on the back-burner until the very last minute and you find yourself frantically changing sheets, digging through the linen closet for a set of matching towels, and making sure that the bedroom is presentable. I’ve been there! But! If you want to think ahead just a little bit, there are a few things you can do and have on hand to make your guests feel welcome and just a teeny bit special.
Today I’ve got a list of “hosting essentials” that’ll get that bedroom ready for action. They don’t take a lot of time or money - it’s just a few simple things that go a long way!
Fresh towels.
There’s nothing better than crisp white towels! I’m in need of some new ones myself and this set caught my eye at West Elm. I like that they have some interesting texture, but still read as simple white towels. They come in several additional colors as well if you like to mix it up.
Extra phone chargers.
There’s nothing worse than getting to your destination and realizing that you forgot your charger. Having a few extras around is handy for guests - leave them in a nightstand drawer, on top of a dresser, or in another nearby spot so your guests can grab one if they need it. This three pack has high ratings and the black/white braided cord is distinctive enough so guests don’t accidentally take it with them when they go!
Candle & matches.
A lovely scented candle is a thoughtful item to have around either in your guest room or the bathroom. I happen to love Voluspa candles for their amazing scents (Mokara is my fave) and pretty containers. Don’t forget to leave some matches too so they can light them at will too. That little match striker is super cute, isn’t it?
A cozy throw blanket.
It’s always nice to give guests options when it comes to bed linens. An extra throw blanket like this chunky cotton one is great to have around in case it gets a little chilly in the evenings and they want another layer on the bed.
Water carafe and glass.
I always like to have water by my bedside at night and I’m sure I’m not alone! Be one step ahead of your guests and place a (full!) carafe + water glass set in their room for when they arrive. Though it seems small, it’s a great touch that will really make them feel welcome. I like this one from CB2. It’s pretty and affordable!
A luggage rack.
Though this one is definitely not required, it sure is nice to have around so your guests don’t have to bend all the way down to the ground to dig through their suitcases. I like this modern rack that can stand on its own when folded, which makes it easy to store away in a closet when you don’t want to have it out.
Olive & Linen Turkish towels.
They’re really great hand towels for the bathroom - they’re soft, absorbent, and dry quickly. I love the patterns too - you can find a set that fits in nicely with just about any decor. I have the set I linked here, and I loved them so much I ordered more!
Good table lamps.
Can we all agree that it’s a pain in the booty to have to feel around in the dark to get to bed after flipping off an overhead light if it’s the only light source? These budget-friendly table lamps are a great size and since they’re neutral, they’ll go with just about any style! And along the same lines - make sure you have bedside tables on both sides of the bed too. If you have a couple staying with you, each person needs a landing zone by the bed for their phone, a book, glasses, etc.
Wifi password.
Make it easy for guests to connect to your wireless network: pick up a small frame like this one and place a copy of your network name and password in it then put it on the dresser or bedside table in the guest room. We’ve done this in our home and guests always comment on that little “extra” touch!
Hooks.
It’s always nice to have a few open hooks around for things like purses, towels, and coats that guests might need to hang while they’re at your home. If you have space in the closet, great, but wall hooks are awesome because then the guest doesn’t need to wonder if it’s ok for them to use your closet (especially if it has lots of stuff in it already!). These simple wood hooks would be perfect for this task.
Were all of these on your list? What would you add to make your guests feel comfy and welcome?
