Wayfair. When I mention that online furniture and home decor giant, what comes to mind? To me, that name evokes things like huge inventory, a wide variety of styles and price points, and, well, overwhelming. Who's with me on that last one?! (Oh, and their free shipping on anything over $49 is a big perk!)

This e-commerce retailer describes itself as having "a zillion things home," so no wonder it seems like an impossible task to sift through over seven million products to find that perfect sofa, bed, or dining room table. If you've ever hopped on the site and tried to search for something, only to throw your hands up in despair? Or maybe you just avoid it all together because it's just. too. much.?

Well, be overwhelmed no more today, friends, because I'm going to share my secrets to shopping Wayfair like a pro. In addition to my regular "Best Of" product picks, I'm going to give you some strategies that I've found to be very successful in finding that perfect piece. You'll feel more equipped than ever to shop this retailer, and I can't wait to see what you find.

Let's start with the strategies, then I'll share my picks. And it's your lucky day friends, because I'm sharing not one, but two Best Of boards because I want to show you how you can put together rooms with two different styles - modern and bohemian. These are some of my personal favorite styles, and Wayfair has plenty of products that cater well to both!

HOW TO SHOP WAYFAIR LIKE A PRO

How to shop Wayfair like a pro!
  1. Use their filters to narrow your search. Wayfair has one of the best sets of filters to help you find exactly what you're looking for. Once you've entered what you're looking for in the search bar, look to the left side of the page. You'll see a bunch of categories with checkboxes that you can check. Using these can drastically reduce the number of products you're seeing. For example, say you're looking for a chandelier for your dining room. On the left, you'll see categories like metal finish, style, price, and number of lights. If you check off a few of those boxes, you'll only be looking at items that fit those criteria.
  2. Try the quick view option. If you hover over an item, a little button will pop up that says "quick view." Click on that, and you'll see basic info like dimensions, color options, and how many are in stock. I find this comes in handy to rule items in and out quickly without having to leave the search page.
  3. Flip through the "customers also viewed" section. If you click on an item and realize it's not quite right, but it's this close, scroll down to a little section called "customers also viewed" to see some related options. Sometimes it works even better than the search feature!
  4. Find brand shops. Basically, since Wayfair is an aggregator for lots and lots of different brands, it's like shopping at West Elm, Crate & Barrel, Pottery Barn and Pier 1 all under one massive roof. But, if there's a particular brand you find you like, there's a way to isolate that brand so you're only looking at their items (yes!). For example, Langley Street is a brand I like for affordable mid-century modern pieces, and sometimes I just want to see that. The way I find their "brand shop" is by entering "Langley Street" into the search bar, and it will bring up a page devoted to the brand. You can then look at items in different categories easily. sometimes this direct search doesn't quite work that smoothly, but if you find one product by the brand, you can find its brand shop by clicking on it (the brand/manufacturer is right next to the item's title).
  5. Read reviews. This is so important, y'all! Most items on Wayfair have reviews attached to them, and they often provide valuable information so that you can make an informed purchase. Returns aren't always easy or straightforward, so do as much research before buying as possible.

Now onto my favorite picks! I'm going to keep it simple this week and let y'all do the browsing visually without me doing all the usual talking since I've already talked plenty today! Below, you'll find a round up of modern picks and bohemian picks. Enjoy!

Urban Outfitters* is a great source for laid back and a little quirky home decor and furniture. The pieces they carry tend to fall into one of a few different styles like bohemian, vintage modern, and mid-century. Most everything is very reasonably priced as well. Affordable and well-designed? I'll take it!

I'll admit, sometimes their items can be a little out there and, um, strange - at least for me - but there are a lot of gems too. You just have to be patient and be willing to sift through some of the more "outrageous" pieces. :) I've found a great selection for clients and myself over the years, and I'm always interested in keeping track of what's new in their home section. They carry all the normal things you'd think of at a home-focused store like sofas, chairs and tables, but they also have things you might not expect, like removable wallpaper, framed art prints, bedding (duvets, shams, quilts, etc.), and kitchenware.

One word of warning about UO's rug selection: a lot of their rugs are cotton, and the pattern is printed directly onto it. This isn't a necessarily a bad thing - in fact, I have one of them in my office - but it does mean that they don't do well in high traffic areas. Their prices and designs are fantastic though, especially if you love the bohemian look. Just make sure you pay attention to the material!

When I was pulling together my round up, I decided to focus mostly on their smaller items, and I found plenty of goodness! I figured I'd highlight a few of my favorites because sometimes it helps to have a little bit of context to go along with the images. :)

Matro Wood Coffee Table ($349): This piece is a great size, y'all, and would look great in so many different styles of living rooms. The wood grain on this is ridiculously pretty. The beauty of this piece is in its simplicity, I think.

Single Herb Wall Planter ($14): At that price, you can afford to buy a bunch of these and create a beautiful statement plant wall. Group an odd number together (3, 5, more?) and you'll be set. I may be doing just that soon enough in my kitchen. We'll see!

Faceted Utensil Holder ($20): This may be advertised as a utensil holder, but it would also make a cute little vase, or a great piece of decor on a bookshelf. The blue/green color is currently backordered, but it also comes in blush and black, which are both in stock.

Leni Leaning Floor Mirror ($139): A small space workhorse is what this mirror is! Not only do you get a full length mirror, you also get some hooks out of this deal - use them for items like scarves, jewelry, or handbags.

Fallon Storage Bench (on sale! $229): Wide enough to span the end of the bed or a great size for a mudroom, this bench is versatile. It's currently $100 off the original price, so don't miss out on a great deal!

Tufted Courduroy Floor Pillows (on sale! 2 for $70): It's kind of hard to tell from the image, but these are small scale floor pillows (they measure 18"x18"). They're made from corduroy, so I'm guessing they feel pretty soft! Plus, they come in a variety of colors, so there is sure to be one that will work well in your home. Grab a few and create a cozy reading corner, or line them up on a window seat for extra comfort.

Target x Dwell Magazine Collaboration

Target-Dwell-Magazine-Collaboration.jpg

Raise your hand if you're a Target fan!

If you're not raising your hand, you're missing out, my friend. Target carries so many awesome, affordable items, and their home section has gotten increasingly awesome over the years. I've been super impressed with their Threshold line each season, and they've always got cool collaborations going on with designers and makers like Nate Berkus and Sugar Paper. Their latest collab in the home department is with Dwell Magazine, which is one of my favorite modern home publications and I. am. pumped.

I caught a preview of the collection a few of months ago when they announced it and they've got some really beautiful things. I especially love their accent chairs, simple dining tables and tableware. There are 122 (!) items total, so be ready to browse through quite the collection!

Take a look at some of their pretty things:

Aren't they just lovely? I can't wait to get my hands on a few of them and pass the sources along to my clients too! Affordable and modern? Those are two magic words in my book. ;)

You can shop the whole collection here, but gathered a few of my favorite pieces for y'all to see here too. Check 'em out!* Hover your cursor over the item and click the icon to shop. If you're on the mobile site, you may have to tap the item and then the icon should pop up to click on.
